Tempeh is a vegetarian substitute to meat made from whole fermented soya beans. Tempeh originates from Indonesia where it is a popular source of protein. Since it is made from the whole soya beans it also has a high level of fibre. It's great instead of meat in a stir-fry, ramen and other oriental dishes. It is also delicious sliced and fried on its own and eaten as a savoury snack.
